January 2018, Newsletter 2

Happy January to all of our valued customers, families, supporters and employees.

What an exciting, collaborative and busy start we have already had for 2018 as we experienced the children’s joy at the Kids! Be You holiday program and continue the journey of coming together with Multicap. We hope you had a wonderful festive season and that the new year has been smooth for you.

Let’s share in the progress of our joining with Multicap, which has been a focus for the last few months. Our official coming together date is the 1st February 2018. Staff have been busy training and up-skilling this month in Multicap procedures, our new roster program, NDIS, medication training and manual handling. We are excited that the majority of our staff have seen the opportunities ahead and are choosing to continue their journey with CARS and Multicap to ensure we will continue providing our high level of client care and support. This was an important focus of the transition and we are very pleased with the result.

Please bear with us as we implement some new and improved systems. We understand that there may be some teething problems and thank everyone for their patience. Please contact the office immediately if you experience any issues with the delivery of your service or have any questions. Our staff team has had some changes and we are almost there with a full complement of 3 Service Leaders and a Service Manager, not to mention our great Disability Support Worker team. CARS clients can expect to hear from their Service Leader very soon if they haven’t already.

Thanks for your support as we venture ahead with this exciting partnership.

Holiday Program Highlights

This was one of the most incredible holiday programs. One of the highlights (among many) was the teens night out. A small group of our teenagers met for dinner at Cafe 63 Stafford, had a delicious dinner together and then went to the movies. Their excitement was palpable and the joy of seeing these young people make new friendships and enjoy the same fun as other teens left us a little misty-eyed.

This year we worked hard to introduce some new activities in response to requests from the kids and parents. We had a choose your own adventure day, Holt Bolt, Flipside Circus and a play date with our patron Sharyn Ghidella as some new additions. The kids also enjoyed some old favourites like the bus trip to Bribie Island where the Lions Club generously provided a sausage sizzle lunch for us, Sea World, Australia Zoo, Trevena Glen, Sandgate and Newmarket pool and so much more. I also want to thank some special visitors who came along to share the joy: CARS Patron Sharyn Ghidella, Dr Anthony Lynham who helped rally the community to fill Santa’s Christmas stocking and of course the holiday program is never complete without a visit from Santa. Thank you, Santa for taking the time out of your busy schedule to share your Christmas cheer.
