Jimmy’s mum, Zoe, was going through an extremely challenging time several years ago. She wanted to return to work part-time but was chronically sleep-deprived due to Jimmy not sleeping well.
She had been on waiting lists for respite help and support to assist the family in coping with the challenges Jimmy faced, but due to high demand, hadn’t been successful.
CARS was determined to help Zoe and Jimmy. We spoke to another agency and agreed that by combining resources, we would be able to offer some support hours to help the family out.
Since then, Jimmy – and the rest of his family – have developed a strong and lasting relationship with Candice, their CARS’ Support Worker. They actually consider her to be part of their family!
Zoe says it’s been invaluable having an extra, capable set of hands while her other children were still young. She also loves what she calls the “CARS feeling”.
“The staff are wonderful and seek to provide opportunities and experiences for our little boy, not just a care service. I also love the (Kids! Be You) holiday programs, that are so focused on friendship and fun – going out and exploring life just like any other typical child would get to experience on school holidays.
Somehow CARS seems to employ great people who work well together to bring out the best experiences for young people.”
